Cams down for a week or so while we move to new apartment

We're moving to Berkeley, cams will be down for a bit while we pack up, move, get connected and settled at the new place!

Home from Portland, things are back up and running

Thanks whoever bunny-messaged me about the cams -- looks like a power outage (outlasting the UPS apparently) took things down while we were gone.

Off to Chicago for the Thanksgiving weekend

We'll be mostly offline in Chicago visiting with Chris's sons for the weekend. Back Monday evening!

Please remember that I can't respond to bunny messages!

I've had several people use the talking bunny to report a technical issue or ask me a question. While I'd love to answer you, I don't know who you are or where to contact you :) Please contact me directly or in the chat if you'd like to actually get a hold of me. I do hear all bunny messages (either at that moment, or I am notified later to check it), but I can't respond!

Birthday party here tomorrow!

Exciting event tomorrow here at casa de Steph... my 25th birthday party! Just a heads up that the cam-snapping should be at a quick pace with a buncha people over in the evening.

Cams (and cam viewer) up and running now

Please do let me know if you're having trouble viewing the cams. They should all be operational now. Note that there are two exceptions, one intentional and one to be fixed:

1) The cams, while on a 1-2 sec refresh in the live viewer, ONLY update when there has been motion. You will not see an updated image unless there has been a certain (small) amount of motion since the last image. This is much better for my system, both to save bandwidth and to integrate with home automation. So yes, sometimes I'm rather still while focused at my desk, so the image might not update for a few seconds (or more). The thumbnails and images in the sidebar will only update at best once a minute.

2) Partially loading/corrupt images. You will sometimes see a wonky looking image (shifted, partially loaded, funky colours, etc.) in the viewer. This is something I'm hoping to resolve with the way the software saves images, but it may not happen for a while.

So... enjoy! These cams are all running on stable hardware now, and the backend system has opened a lot of doors for the way I integrate them into other features. Not to mention bye bye Windows!

Doing the cam shuffle

Tonight I'm cutting over the old cams to the new, and will be in a bit of a state of flux for the next 24 hours as I finish up the coding and physical set up of the cams.

Added draggable timeline of events

Check it out! Nifty, eh? Future plans are to enhance this with colour-coding based on each type of event.

A step towards tracking grocery purchases?

Now that we're actually ordering (at least some of) our groceries online, this is a big step towards my goal of tracking purchases. I noticed today that they publish the UPC codes online with the products you're ordering. Unfortunately there's no easy way to export them automatically at the end, but this feels like a step in the right direction. Another step will be to set up a kitchen PC with the barcode scanner to input items easily...

Hamster Cam up for now

At least something temporary is active since we're gone to Sacramento for the weekend and can keep an eye on him :) Just click over to the cams page and you'll see it.
